Chelsea are one of the most popular teams to watch in the Premier League, no matter how they are performing. It’s worth pointing out that part of the problem with getting tickets is that Stamford Bridge doesn’t have a very big capacity compared to some of the other big clubs in the Premier League. It can only fit in 40,343 people – the ninth highest in the league, behind teams like Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Even Sunderland in the Championship have a bigger ground.
Chelsea FC Season Tickets
It’s quite difficult to become one of the 28,000 Chelsea FC season ticket holders – compare that to the 55,000 that West Ham have. The majority of those will renew year-in year-out, so there aren’t many that become available each summer. What is a bit different about how Chelsea do things is that there isn’t a waiting list for fans to join – they have a loyalty points system.
Basically, supporters can build up loyalty points throughout a season by attending games – they give more points for attending games against weaker opponents and FA Cup matches. Then, when they know how many season tickets are available, they offer them to the fans that have accrued the most points and work their way down the list.
So, it is incredibly difficult to become a Chelsea season ticket holder.
Individual match day Chelsea tickets
If you’ve missed out on a Chelsea FC season ticket, you can buy Chelsea tickets for individual matches, but again, it is not easy. Chelsea FC season ticket holders have the option to buy an additional ticket before they are made available to Club Members.
Even then, the tickets are first made available to the fans that reach a benchmark of loyalty points – the number that you need to secure tickets varies from match to match, depending on the demand.
Cup games tend to be easier to come by, and a good way to start building up your points total, but as these are often midweek games, they aren’t convenient for people to get to.
Chelsea tickets via hospitality packages
One way to guarantee Chelsea tickets is to purchase one of their hospitality packages. While these also tend to sell quite quickly, there are generally more available if you want to make sure you get a ticket to see the match.
Of course, these are much more expensive than the regular match ticket prices. But there is plenty of variety there, whether you fancy a trip to Frankie’s Sports Bar before the game, or you want the ultimate luxury of an executive box.
When do Chelsea tickets go on sale?
Chelsea tickets for Premier league matches go on sale 42 days before the match for members. Two weeks after this, they go on general sale – if there are any tickets still available at that point.
