There have now been over 200 clashes in this matchup, dating back to 1898. In fact, Spurs have faced Manchester United more than any other team.
United come out on top in the head-to-head stats but Spurs do fair better when the fixture is held in London.
Tottenham Hotspur was founded in 1882 and have had plenty of domestic success over their history. However, with their last trophy being the League Cup in 2008, many Spurs fans are desperate to bring silverware back to North London.
In 1878, Manchester United were originally Newton Heath LYR Football Club, a team for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company, who joined the Football League in 1892.

Despite only opening in 2019 and being a new landmark, this stadium is a must-attend for any football fan. It’s a state-of-the-art football venue and multipurpose arena that has really changed the game when it comes to stadia.
Built on the site right next to the old White Hart Lane stadium, the home of Tottenham Hotspur is the largest club stadium in London and has a capacity of 62,850.
Memorable Clashes
1. August 19th, 2023: Tottenham 2-0 Manchester United
At the fifth attempt, this was Spurs’ first win against Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since opened in 2019. A Pepe Matar Sarr goal and an OG from Lisandro Martinez helped Spurs to break to their duck.
2. October 4th, 2020: Manchester United 1-6 Tottenham
Although this one was held in Manchester, it’s a famous fixture for any Spurs fan, equalling Spurs’ biggest-ever win against Manchester United. Goals galore and a red card for good measure – this one will live long in the memory of the North Londoners.
3. October 30th, 2021: Tottenham 0-3 Manchester United
An unhappy affair for Spurs this time as United achieved their biggest win at Tottenham since a 4-0 victory in 2007. Then managed by Nuno Espirito Santo, Spurs failed to offer fight in this game – something they’ll still be haunted by today.
